Wessex Lacemakers

Formed in I98O, Wessex Lacemakers is a group whose members come from all parts of the Wessex area, from Bristol in the north to Honiton in the south, from Porlock in the west to Warminster in the east, we cover the old Kingdom of Wessex hence the shape of our badge which resembles the Alfred Jewel. The group holds four/five meetings each year at various venues, all within the Wessex area, and in addition holds an annual Suppliers Fair and Lace Day.

The meetings are on a Saturday and are usually all day sessions They are social working sessions where you can meet other Lacemakers. There is usually a supplier in attendance (sometimes more than one), so it is an ideal opportunity to stock up threads, pins, books, bobbins etc;

The Wessex Lacemakers aims to encourage and promote all types of lacemaking and new ideas are always welcomed by everyone.

The Wessex Lacemakers tries to arrange something different for each meeting, this could be a speaker, a demonstration or a 'have-a-go' workshop to try out various techniques, or even tatting, needlelace, carrickmacross and hairpin crochet, (to name but a few!) Occasionally we organise trips to visit museums and lace displays. All members are also to be found demonstrating their skills and exhibiting the lace they have made at venues varying from the village fete to the local stately home or castle. Our membership is open to all age groups. You are never to old or too young to make lace! We particularly like to encourage young Lacemakers as they will be the ones to continue the craft in the years to come there are special classes open to young Lacemakers, both individually and as a group, in our annual Lace Day.

All members are sent a copy of our newsletter (usually a couple of weeks before our next meeting), giving news up-dates regarding our activities together with directions on how to get to next meeting.

Our membership subscription at the moment is £10 per year & is due at our A.G.M. which is held in April. young lacemkaers 50p
